How it works
Write a letter to someone you love, or to your future self. Choose the moment it should arrive. We keep it private and safe until then.
Writing a letter
We guide you one step at a time, with big buttons and plain words. Everything is saved as you go, so you can stop and come back whenever you like.
Their name and email address. You can choose to let them know now that a letter is waiting for them; we never show what it says. (Letters to yourself skip this step.)
On a date, such as a birthday or anniversary; when something happens, such as their wedding; or after you're gone. For birthdays, we work out the date for you from their date of birth.
Give it a title, write your letter, and add up to 5 photos if you like. Photos straight from your phone are fine; we resize them for you.
Read it through, change anything you need, then press save. You can still change your letter later, right up until it's delivered.
When it arrives
You choose one when you write the letter, and you can change it later.
For the days you know are coming
Your letter is released on the day you choose.
For example: a letter to your newborn grandchild, to open on their 18th birthday.
For moments without a date
We let them know a letter is waiting, without saying what it says. When the moment comes, they sign in, tell us it has happened, and open it.
For example: a letter for your daughter to read on the morning of her wedding.
A letter to leave behind
If you haven't signed in for six months, we email you to check in. Only if several check-ins over the following weeks all go unanswered is your letter released.
For example: a letter to each of your children, sharing your love and pride one last time.
Receiving a letter
Letters are never sent by email. Your loved one reads theirs in their own private Letterbox.
If you chose to let them know, or for a "when something happens" letter, they get a short email straight away. Every letter also sends an email on the day it's ready to read.
Using the same email address the letter was sent to, so only they can open it.
For "when something happens" letters, they tick a box to confirm the moment has arrived.
Your words and photos appear in their Letterbox. They can read them again whenever they like, print them, or download a copy to keep.
Keeping it safe
Every letter and photo is encrypted before it's saved. We never read, sell or advertise with your letters.
Emails only ever say a letter is waiting. The letter itself is only shown to the person it's for, once they've signed in.
Your letter saves itself as you go. Close the page, come back next week, and carry on where you left off.
Letters are backed up in more than one place. If we ever had to close, you'd get advance notice and your letters back. Our Vault Promise
Edit your letter as often as you like until it's delivered. Letters to yourself can be sealed when you're finished.

Letters to yourself
Letters to your future self are free: up to 10 of them, on any date up to 50 years ahead. They're a lovely way to mark a year, remember a dream, or send yourself encouragement.
